Producer, DP / Paving the Way: A Series of Videos for the Parents and Families of Blind Children in Rural Mexico
This series was spearheaded by Orientation and Mobility Specialist Annie Rempe, of the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind. On this project Annie and I worked with the renowned rehabilitation clinic Piña Palmera, in the rural state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Drawing on Piña’s vast network of contacts in the region, we partnered with families willing to share their stories and experiences helping their children adapt to the world around them. Sometimes poignant and unexpected, this short series of educational videos was designed to help orient seeing family members to the particular challenges and joys of raising blind and visually impaired children.
The project was distributed on DVD, with four chapters targeting the different skill sets associated with orientation and mobility, working with babies, reading and writing in braille and developing habits and routines around the home.
