LIFE ON DEATH BEACH

Five years ago, Jeff Arak set out to make a documentary about a group of volunteer lifeguards in Mexico that saved my life in 2006. Along the way, he learned that the lifeguards weren't the only group in Zipolite doing important works and not getting paid enough to do it. Pina Palmera works with people with disabilities and their families throughout the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico.

After a first trial run in the spring of 2012, when the IWP was invited to collaborate with the dynamic Battery Dance Company of NYC during a reading tour on location in Fortalezza (Brasil), a secondo opportunity came our way in the fall of 2012. With "freedom" - the ability to move without constraints- as the keyword, writers submitted short texts, which the came to double as both inspiration and score for the dancers' performances.

LALS CELEBRATES ITS 50th ANNIVERSARY

The Latin American and Latino Studies Program hosted an event titled "Our America/Nuestra America: The Future of Aresa Studies" in honor of its 50th anniversary. The event featured a panel consisting of three distinguished alumni who spoke on theire experiences in the program. Frances Hagopian '75, Peter Kornbluh '78 and Jeff Arak '07.
